ARCHERY, oft referred to in JAPAN
as KYUDO or KYUJUTSU; (click)
is the modern application and TRADITION
of THE WAY OF THE BOW + ARROW (click).
In JAPAN, the ARCHERS Weapon of choice is-
YUMI ( 弓 ) = the BOW.
+
YA ( 矢 ) = the ARROW.
ALL…
now a part of,.. Our World
LEGENDS…
OF BOW + ARROW.
In JAPAN of Old,..
as with many other MARTIAL WEAPONRY,
it was the RULING class of SAMURAI that formalised
the BOW ARTS OF WAR- usually termed KYUJUTSU;
into the more SPORTIFIED approach of KYUDO (click).
The JAPANESE NATION itself btw,..(click)
was oft referred to as ‘ the PEOPLE OF THE BOW ‘…
both types (click).
SO THE LEGENDS SAY,..
The LEGENDS of this WAY
tell of targets being hit from across battle-fields, harbors,
hidden by clouds or castle walls;
by day or by night…
as well as such as two soldiers,..
killed by,.. just one lone ARROW in it’s flight.
Targeting Shields, the ARROWS gone straight thru
or sending Signals that saved precious lives,..
somewhere and somehow,.. the arrow bolt
stayed straight as,..
and stayed ARROW true.
Fleeing… and flying ROYAL PET BIRDS too,..
even on this,
the ARROW…was on Target.
Impressive shot indeed,..
non-lethal, straight as, another ARROW true.
Bringing the pet down and home safe-
twas blunted this well-aimed ARCHER’s ARROW,..
no point making a point…
with this fly-a-way jailed-bird.
of course, that’s ALL true.
STRAIGHT AS,
So these LEGENDS SAY…
about this… the ARCHER’s-
BOW + ARROW WAY.
ARROW… AVALANCHE.?.
LEGENDS too, of incredible ARCHER’s endurance,
stamina and will:
In 1686… for example;
KYOTO’s SANJUSANGEN-DO ( The HALL OF 33 PILLAR SPANS )
saw
ARCHER WADA DAIHACHI unleash over 8100 ARROWS
in just one day.
Distance from WADA’s TARGET…
app. 115 mtrs… so the LEGENDS do say.
Later too…
on another such JAPANESE day.
This one,.. mid MAY,..
1852…
elsewhere it seems, on this day-
at the respective HALL IN EDO…
saw a great bout, of fine ARROW play-
saw such arrowed and aimed concentration,
targeted focus indeed too.
When ARCHER in-service,.. TSURUTA MASATOKI…
flew down briskly,
a touch over 10000…
the same WAY.
CONTINUING THE WAY…
The disciplined Japanese approach to such a MARTIAL ART,
ensures such as the KYUDO Tradition
continues to highlight all the various and particular
actions required to perform and target appropriately.
Akin to other MARTIAL WAY’s use of KATA, (click)
each movement,
of BOW,.. ARROW and ARCHER:
… reflects a functional systematic way, of achieving
the precise and smooth coordination to fulfill…
THE WAY OF THE BOW.
