WHEN FREEDOM CALLS :
DREAMS, TRAVEL AND SACRIFICE.
AN ODE TO GEORGE-A MIGRANT MAN…
WHOSE DEATH WAS WORTH 6 YEARS…
Lived and breathed that distant dream
of freedom down under, in that strange new land.
Migrant man with fresh hopes and yearns
to renew,…to start life all over again.
Leaving home, the red flag land, far far behind-
many challenges lay ahead, new language to learn.
A change of culture,…
many changes at almost every turn-
a heady mix of cultures, habits and traditions.
As a young into old,
man and nation together grew…
migrant man with big DREAMS was there-
slowly becoming true blue.
As part of this change,
adapted his name,…
adopted a new
and became known simply as
Worked hard, damned hard for his money reward.
A citizen now,the right to vote and pay taxes.
A Migrant mans DREAMS coming true.
A new life was carved, a factory hand.
Bought a house, some land,
living the aussie dream-
started a family here, the right thing to do.
A day like any other, at least started that way
george and family just doing the live, work and play.
Till the sound of angry raised voices reaches the ears,
a crowd of natural born young men projecting their fears.
Full of muscle and wrath, their noise and commotion grow-
local folk quickly shut and locked doors,…
not wanting to know.
Now old man george though, was of sterner stuff
the boys he thought were plainly just huff.
A home to defend, well worth his rights.
Opens the front door- goes out to meet the night…
aussie v aussie but these young cared little for that.
On his adopted soil migrant man george, blood spilt,
hunted and chased, into the gutter was he thrown-
young men beating and kicking, their rage carried on…
leaving the dying, the scene they then fled-
leaving the dying migrant man,.. george too, was soon spent.
Eventually the law tracked and captured a few
6years was the sentence in the killing of george-
6 years FOR THE KILLING OF HIS DREAM.
6 years for the death of a migrant man i once knew.
6years his life only worth-
the judge decided, no more. 6 years.
6 years for the death of a DREAM.
6 years not much it seems.
as for me…idreamofninja.
And you…do you have a dream too?
What’s it REALLY WORTH to YOU???…
