DUCT TAPE CANT FIX?

 

A 2005 estimate calculated some 5oo,ooo miles of DUCT TAPE USED  PER YEAR…more than enough to get to the MOON and back!

 

ALL THIS BECAUSE A WAR TIME MUM HAD AN IDEA TO HELP SAVE HER SON AND THE OTHER YOUNG MEN FIGHTING IN WW2.

That’s right TRADESMEN…DUCT TAPE WAS INVENTED BY A WOMAN, A MUM WITH LOVE IN HER HEART.

HISTORY AND ORIGINS:

Working at an ORDNANCE PLANT during WW2, inspecting and packing weapon cartridges Mrs Vesta STOUDT soon realised the ineffectiveness of the paper tape tabs that were currently in use at the time.

As is oft. the way…

her supervisors thought it an interesting idea…

and left it at that.

Frustrated by such inaction, she wrote to her PRES. F.D.ROOSEVELT.

 

 

To his credit FDR realised the potential of her idea and forwarded details to the WAR PRODUCTION BOARD who then considered her idea to be “of exceptional merit”…oft.referred to as “100 or 200 mile an hour tape” by the US Military and other users…

Johnson&Johnson with previous tape making experience were given the go ahead and DUCT TAPE was put into production. The name btw appears to have evolved and by the 1970’s ish…

generally became known to all as it is today(2016-).

 

 

DUCT TAPE USES AND ABUSES:

The many many uses of DUCT TAPE ARE LEGENDARY. Several online sites are even dedicated to this Sticky issue. So many sites mention it that i could not define HOW MANY! My DUCKDUCKGO browser just kept scrolling…LOTS!!!

 

 

So many varieties too…even “CAMO” ….DREAMNINJAS TAKE NOTE!

 

 

Its Strength too has become somewhat of an “URBAN LEGEND” with such as the MYTHBUSTERS testing it extensively. A “hold strength” of some 6olbs/25=kgs per strip was estimated and the Mbusters crew even managed to lift a 5000+lb CAR when wrapped with LOTS of tape…left suspended, the tape eventually tore, though its sticking ability still apparent. Several sites below give a partial/limited usage overview.

Several uses by SHIRO include:

 

  • Holding up my “Leg Warmers”during Winter training in JAPAN…
  • Taping together “Broken/Dislocated Fingers”….during training…
  • …and as a “Extra layer”over bandages…

…cos my nose been broke

(…and “set” by me…not quite 100%aligned)…

  • As a “Nasal Strip” to allow full air movement…during training&other activities…
  • As a “Belt” when forgotten to pack…
  • To “Hold my reading glasses”together…(…many times!!!)
  • Rolled into “a ball with a rock in the centre”…spare juggling ball for co-ord trng
  • Multiple layers “twisted like rope…as a garrote”for choke variation trng

IMPORTANT thing to note…: DUCT TAPE sticks to hair VERY WELL…

COULD EASILY BE USED AS A DEPILATORY TAPE METHINKS…

MEKNOWS actually…

BEWARE BE VERY AWARE… DUCT TAPE STICKS !

 

My main use though is for Trng.Weapon repair-both temp. and final.

A Bandaid for partially cracked/broken Weapons. Combine

and/or repair later with fish line and very generous amounts

of glue such as loctite and several layers of varnish:

 

may well repair the Weapon sturdier than before…
