could significant cut down on a cities heat island effect.
Heat islands are urbanized areas that experience higher
temperatures than outlying areas. Daytime temperatures
in urban areas are about 1–7°F higher than temperatures
in outlying areas and nighttime temperatures are about 2-5°F higher.

Yes! And some countries are taking steps in this direction.

All things considering, with the loss of farmland and global warming,
people should really consider urban farming.
Growing more plants alone should offset
the amount of pollution cities produce.
I speak of this as an American
where urban decay is almost normalized.
